The M62 from Liverpool

The M62 starts at Queens Drive in Liverpool, at the junction known as The Rocket. It passes Huyton and meets the M57 at the Tarbock interchange. It then runs past Rainhill, Burtonwood and Winwick to meet the M6 at the Croft interchange, and continues past Birchwood towards Manchester.

We cover the towns along it: Huyton, St Helens, Widnes and Warrington.

What to do if you break down on a motorway

Leave the motorway at the next junction or services if you can.

If you cannot, pull on to the hard shoulder or into an emergency area and stop as far to the left as possible. Switch on your hazard lights. Leave the vehicle by the left-hand doors and wait behind the barrier, well away from the traffic. Do not try to repair the vehicle yourself.

Some stretches of motorway have no hard shoulder. On those, aim for an emergency area, which is marked with blue signs and an orange SOS telephone symbol.

If you are stuck in a live lane and cannot get out safely, stay in the vehicle with your seat belt and hazard lights on, and call 999.

If the police or National Highways traffic officers attend, follow their instructions.
